Reflection Task 3: Presentation
Presenting Learning
Teachers can use PowerPoint to create
presentations that combine media and text to complement each other.
Furthermore, presentations aim to persuade, narrate and/or educate. There is an
abundance of options and tools within this digital media tool. I have attached
a YouTube video that outlines the technical aspects teachers can be aware of to
enhance their practice.
Overall it is important for teachers to maintain the super simple 'kiss' principle for education purposes. You can use the tools to create clean and simple text, no more than thirty points. As well as, add images and videos. Teachers should keep presentations to no more than 10 slides and the duration should be no more than 20 minutes. Teachers can upload and embed their presentations to Wiki pages, SlideShare or AuthorStream and can then be uploaded into any webspace.
Using the SMAR model I will provide some examples of how educators can use the tool of PowerPoint presentations to benefit their learners. The examples will be based on year 10 students within the subject domain of Health and Physical Education and the topic of energy balance.
Firstly, on a substitution level, a presentation can act as a direct tool of substitute, with no functional change. Therefore, existing media can be used and edited into a PowerPoint and then presented alongside the teacher. I have snapshotted an example of this. I found information from the website; National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute about energy balance and then snapshotted the page and substituted it into a PowerPoint.
Secondly, argumentation is creating a new set of resources for students therefore, the teacher can create a PowerPoint and then present alongside it, but it is new information and resources. I have attached a form of PowerPoint presentation recording. Modification is when tech allows for significant task resign, for example, I have attached a YouTube video within my presentation to engage students and combine a range of digital tools successfully.
Lastly, redefinition is when tech allows for the creation of new tasks therefore, in my presentation I give students the task to create a mini-podcast using PowerPoint on their devices. PowerPoint gives students the opportunity to record, listen, improve, and re-record and then upload their narrated presentation.
Pedagogically students benefit highly from the integration of digital tools specifically PowerPoint presentations. I have successfully demonstrated a range of ways you can meet standard 4.6 and use ICT successfully (AITSL, 2011).
